Die Set Product Information
High-precision Die Set that Supports Forging Quality
A die set is an essential component that securely mounts a die to a press machine and guides its upper and lower movement with high precision. Since 1969, Nichidai has designed and manufactured die sets, providing high-precision products that leverage the expertise and technology it has developed as a forging die manufacturer. With more than 500 units sold in Japan to date, Nichidai die sets are widely used in a variety of manufacturing applications.
Types and Features of Die Set
Die set for cold forging
The design of this type places importance on forging quality, die lifespan,
and ease of use (such as die changeover) in actual production sites.
The design also places importance on the coaxiality of dies by using ball
retainers on guide posts to produce zero clearance.
Die set for warm forging
In hot forging, maintaining the right balance between the heating temperature of the material and die cooling is critical to product quality and die life. Nichidai improves die life by incorporating cooling circuits and piping into the dies. In addition, to meet the needs of hot forging, where dies are replaced more frequently than in cold forging, Nichidai employs a structure that enables efficient die replacement.
Die set for hot forging
Our die sets feature a structure designed to minimize thrust forces caused by load differences between forging stages, as well as a design compatible with automated material transfer. In addition, for dies susceptible to the effects of high-temperature materials, we employ a die set structure designed for forced cooling, contributing to stable forging quality and extended die life.
Enclosed die set for cold and warm forging
NICHIDAI’s proprietary Simple Enclosed Die Set, patented in 1987, incorporates
a closed-die forging mechanism into the die set. This enables flashless
forging, improving material yield and contributing to cost reduction.
With a single-sided enclosed die set, which incorporates one closing
mechanism, components such as bevel gears and inner races can be forged. With
a double-sided enclosed die set, which incorporates closing mechanisms at both
the upper and lower sides, components such as spiders and Rzeppa joints can be
forged.
The enclosed mechanism is available in three types: spring closing (coil
springs), gas closing (gas cylinders), and hydraulic closing (hydraulic
cylinders).
Sensing die set
NICHIDAI is working on the visualization of die life and forging defects through data collected from AE, displacement, load, and other sensors embedded in die sets. NICHIDAI’s patented load sensors (load cells) can be newly added to existing die sets and dies.
