- Deep hole drilling based on cold forging is effective to lighten long shafts for vehicles, but it was difficult for conventional backward extrusion to perform deep hole drilling due to punch buckling.
- We have developed counter tension extrusion that gives tension to the punch, and have improved deep hole drilling performance by reducing the punch surface pressure to prevent buckling.
- As a result of testing and product application, back-pressure control has enabled forming with a maximum length-to-diameter ratio of 15, but issues with lubrication and mass production still remain.

Forming conditions
- Material
- Steel
- Size
- Hole depth: 80 mm (Length-to-diameter ratio: Approx. 11) Coaxiality: 0.01 to 0.02
- Applications
- Hollow shafts are shaft components that are widely used on the core components of vehicles, such as drive, steering, and auxiliary systems, to transmit rotational force (torque) and movement.
Shaft components are the core components of vehicles that support movement, turning, and rotation and they are intensively used in drive, engine, transmission, and steering systems.
